Pacific Maritime & Heritage Center View The DVD

The Pacific Maritime & Heritage Center will be more than a display of artifacts; it will be an interactive place that incorporates the working wharf, educational programs, and local maritime uses. It will be designed to attract, educate, and entertain all ages, instilling in local residents and visitors a sense of place and community, a place they will want to visit
again and again.

The building and site at 333 SE Bay Boulevard were purchased by the Lincoln County Historical Society in 2004. The site was first graced with a home for Dr. James R. Bayley and his wife, Elizabeth. That building burned in 1923, leaving only the stone fireplace and concrete foundation. A new home was built in 1925 by World War I hero General Ulysses Grant McAlexander on the site, retaining the fireplace and foundation. In the 1970s the structure underwent remodeling and expansion and most recently housed
Gracies at Smuggler's Cove, a popular restaurant and entertainment spot.

Bayfront WindowWindows Fundraiser

One of the most exciting aspects of the Pacific Maritime & Heritage Center building is the spectacular view of Newport¹s working bay front from the 79 windows, many in the dormers jutting out from the main frame. These windows must be replaced with new weather resistant and secure panes.

You can support the replacement of a window in this historic building and be honored with your name on a plaque displayed in the entrance to the museum. With a donation of $300, you can ensure that one more window pane will be ready for visitors to view the working bay front and the bridge and ocean beyond.

Donors will be invited to a special reception at the building after funds for the windows are raised. For more information, call 541-265-7509.
